Frequently asked questions

Where does this calculator get its values?

From the U.S. Treasury's own Savings Bonds Value Files, the redemption tables Treasury publishes for bond pricing software. They are published through Nov 2026. We tested the calculator against TreasuryDirect's official calculator and the values matched to the cent. How we calculate.

Is the value before or after tax?

Before tax. Savings bond interest is subject to federal income tax but not state or local income tax.

My bond stopped earning years ago. Is it still worth anything?

Yes. A matured bond keeps the value it had at final maturity; it just doesn't grow any more.

How often does the value change?

Treasury publishes new redemption values every May and November. Most EE and I bonds add interest monthly, so the value can change from one month to the next.

Is this site run by the U.S. Treasury?
