SavingsBondWorth helps people work out what their old U.S. savings bonds are worth and what to do with them. It is built for the moment you find a stack of paper bonds in a drawer, a safe-deposit box or a relative's papers.
What we do
- Show the value, interest and status of paper Series EE, I and E bonds and Savings Notes using the U.S. Treasury's own redemption data.
- Show which bonds have stopped earning interest, and when others will.
- Explain in plain English how to cash bonds, handle the taxes and deal with lost or inherited bonds, based on TreasuryDirect and IRS guidance.
How we keep it accurate
Values come straight from Treasury's published files and are refreshed every May and November when Treasury publishes new values. We test the calculator against TreasuryDirect's official calculator. See how we calculate.
